This blog was inspired by a Facebook post by a follower, Maryann, who was inquiring as to the proper number of calories she should be consuming to lose those "last stubborn 10-15 pounds". This is not the first time I've gotten "how many calories" question.

I have always believed it is more important to focus on the quality of the calorie and the time it's consumed, rather than count calories.

1 week into the New Year, how many of us have kept or even made resolutions? After many years in the fitness/wellness industry, I have made and helped clients realize countless resolutions. Some stick, but all too many fade into the cold, darkness of late January and February. For me, I get caught up in the freshness of the New Year. The possibility to start with a clean slate (and plate) has always held a lot of appeal to me. But, what is it about resolutions and why are they so hard to keep?  I was working out the other day when I asked David, a guy working out next to me, if he had made any special resolution for 2014. He said he didn’t, as he never keeps them anyway.

In regard to the article in Details magazine titled The Art of the Gym Date, I don¹t necessarily advocate couples working out together. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but in my experience, couples working out together isn¹t a great idea.  I have trained many couples ­ boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, boyfriend/boyfriend, and girlfriend/girlfriend and I have found that training them separately is beneficial for all involved.
